To enrich the cultural landscape of Lemont by fostering the production and appreciation of the arts.
For August, we feature painter Elizabeth Popp. You can see Elizabeth’s beautiful paintings in person at Lemont Center for the Arts.
Fine Artist Elizabeth Popp enjoys painting and drawing. She has always loved to pick up a pencil, pen…paintbrush, and see what happens to the paper or canvas! In 1994 she began her art studies at Northern Illinois University and received a Bachelors Degree of Fine Art in Illustration in 1998. She continued her art education at Governors State University and received a Masters of Art in Painting in 2004. Since then, Elizabeth has been involved with the Lemont Artists Guild (LAG), a 501(c)3, Not-For-Profit organization, of which she is currently the president (www.lemontartistsguild.org). Elizabeth chaired LAG’s juried “Love of Art” Fine Art Show in 2010, 2011, & 2012 and exhibited there 2003-2012. She has coordinated member showings for the Lemont Artists Guild at Indian Prairie Public Library in Darien, IL (2012) and McCord Gallery and Cultural Center in Palos Park, IL (2013). In the past year her artwork has also been shown at the Lemont Public Library and Woodridge Public Library. She has taught drawing to children at Tinley Park Public Library and also has done a number of private commissions.
Currently, Elizabeth is employed at a printing company, Park Printing (www.parkprintcenters.com) in Palos Hills, IL and also does kitchen demonstrations, showing high quality kitchen tools for The Pampered Chef ® (www.pamperedchef.biz/pclizp). In addition to her time spent with the Lemont Artists Guild, Elizabeth is also a member of the Orland Park Area Chamber of Commerce (www.orlandparkchamber.org). In her free time, Elizabeth enjoys time with family and friends and likes exercising and relaxing with a good magazine or book. She values the variety of work and activities she has in her life, as she always has ideas to put into her abstract artwork. Her abstract artwork is a way for her to express so many feelings and thoughts and experiences, that sometimes there are no words to convey them, nor real pictures to represent them.
In her own words, here is what Elizabeth feels fuels her passion for her art:
“Life is more than what is in front of us. It is a gift to be able reveal and express one’s inner self. There is more to life than just what is seen and heard. Art is an incredible way to create what otherwise would not be shown or put into words. People should work towards their dreams and never give up, no matter how abstract or unrealistic what they ‘want’ in life may seem.”
